Does your house need a face-lift?

Everyone is always wondering what they can do to their home to give it that ‘fresh’ feel….a little make over without breaking the bank! Here are some ideas that can give your home that breath of fresh air, that sprucing up that you desire. The best part is that you can do this in one weekend. So, mark your calendar for the Heritage Texas Properties ‘House Face-Lift’ weekend challenge!! HTP logoLet’s get started…curb appeal. Grab a bucket of soap and water and head to your front door. Give your door, door frame, threshold, and siding around your door a good old-fashioned scrubbing. Then, wash your front lighting. Take apart the fixture and clean inside the glass. This will give your entrance a clean shine. Give your mailbox some elbow grease too while cleaning. If your mailbox doesn’t clean up nicely, go ahead and buy a new one…small purchase, huge difference! You can also try to clean your address numbers, or you may need to replace them. While you are at the store, buy a new doormat and fresh plants for your porch. Again, small purchase but guaranteed to freshen up your entrance. front door

Now let’s take the face-lift inside. You may be overwhelmed by your kitchen…it needs this, it needs that, etc! The cost of a kitchen remodel is known to be one of the most expensive items of remodeling. However, let’s think about a few details that will change the overall feel of your kitchen. First, hardware!! Keep your eye out for cabinet knobs and drawer pulls that you love…don’t wait until you re-do your kitchen, buy them now! Remove old hardware and give your cabinets a good cleaning. Touch up any ‘dings’ with fresh paint. Then, install your new hardware. WOW! What a difference this makes! Go the extra step and replace your kitchen rug to give the room a fresh feel.

Repeat the steps you did in the kitchen, and you will feel like you got new cabinetry in the bathroom. The finishing touches of the bathroom are so important…buy a new shower curtain, replace those hanging hand towels, buy a new bathroom rug, and splurge for a new mirror over your sink. You will be shocked! It will feel like a new bathroom! bathroom

Here’s an item that can change the feel throughout your whole house…lighting fixtures! I know you’re thinking that is way too expensive to buy all new fixtures. So, don’t buy them- spruce up the ones you have! Replace old fan blades, replace the ‘pull strings’ on the fans, clean the glass on all fixtures, and replace any chandelier mini lamp shades. Do you have an old brass lighting fixture that drives you crazy? Try this…take apart the fixture, lay it on a sheet outside, then spray it with fixture paint! Yep…you can buy spray that is made to go on fixtures! Turn that brass chandelier into a “wrought iron” chandelier! fixture
